Campsite #46
March 27-28
The Juney Whankers minus Jerky
Whanker Mike. We all came in different trails. George and Dave came
up Sunkota Ridge and down into camp for about 8 miles.. When Mike saw
their car he proceeded up that trail for 2.5 miles until retracing his steps to
make a 5 miler then proceed on the 4 miles into campsite #46. Kat did the
Indian Motor Loop and I did the Indian Creek trail because my feet were healing
from a minor procedure or as Dave would say, a sand removal. Juney Whank
is the name of a falls on this trail that I did not side trip to photograph.
It means in Cherokee, the bear went that a way. Well, in this case, Mike
is definitely our Juney Whank and I'm not pulling yours or anyone elses.
Indian Creek Falls on a sunny
Saturday.
What do we do in camp you might ask?
Make our own fun, it appears.
This is quite a curious sight.
Some might say a bicurious sight as Geo does a double take.
While we waited on the rest of our
gang, I decided to put these two to work. You see, I just couldn't get
comfortable around the fire ring. I needed to put my feet up for a spell
and these younguns need a little exercise.
Eventually Mike arrived and
was presented with some Jerky by BC George. The name of the Jerky?
Climax Jerky from Breckenridge. Climax Jerky Mike. Has an unusually
creepy ring to it.
It was a full moon at camp 46 and what a
camp we had. This place didn't exist a year ago and someone put a great
deal of thought into it. I'm not complaining. I would rather have a
new campsite than none at all but the hill they placed this thing on meant there
were two flat tent spots period.
Umberger does a Sunday drive by just for
all the good McLovin he had been hearing about. I think he misunderstood.
This does seem to be a pattern for Kevin, check
here.
This little fella didn't stand a chance on
the trail. Why?
I have no idea.
Get in that hog trap Kevin! I can't believe he fell for that one.
The rain was kind and abated
long enough for a short downhill walk out. These bunch of Juney Whankers
departed and Dave is ever closer to his goal of completing the trails along with
George.
Stay tuned this week for an interesting story sent in by a guy who spotted a picture we took a while back on the trail. Also, looks like Good Friday will be a hiking day since everyone is off and wants to be home for Easter. Any plans? Check with us for details.
When I listen to Tommy he evokes imagery consistent with the songs like few others are able to do. Hope no one minds my musical sidetrips of late. Happy Easter to everyone.
